Good first impressions sell a home.
Exterior - trim lawn, yard free from toys, straight lines on gutters,
shutters, flat fitting shingles, clean paint
Living Room - open curtains, furnishings in good repair,
Kitchen - spotless appliances, perfect working condition, uncluttered
countertops,
Master bedroom - uncluttered furnishings, closets free of clutter
Bathrooms - fix leaky faucets, rust stains, repair caulking and grouting,
minor flaws
Recreation room - relaxing atmosphere, fireplace and wood stoves clean
Garage - uncluttered space, toss unnecessary articles, keep orderly
Basement - organize shelves, brighten up by painting walls
Attic - tidy it up, light it up
Should I Redecorate?
If you think you should stick to fresh paint in neutral colors. It is difficult
to anticipate a strangers taste.
Pricing Your Home
Overpriced homes take longer to sell. The higher above market value you price
your home the longer it will take to sell. You can always start out high and see
what happens. Then lower the price if you have to.
If you price your home to high you will have fewer buyers, and buyers will have
trouble with financing because the market value is not there for the appraisers.
